General Enrollment Periods

INITIAL ENROLLMENT PERIOD (IEP)

The seven-month period when individuals are first eligible for Medicare. It is the three months before they turn 65, their birth month, and the three months following their birth month.

PART B GENERAL ENROLLMENT PERIOD (GEP)

If initial enrollment is missed, eligible Medicare beneficiaries can sign up for Medicare Part B between January 1 and March 31 each year.

OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD (OEP)

October 15 – December 7 each year.  During this time, Medicare beneficiaries can switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan (with or without Part D included), enroll in a Part D plan, disenroll from Part D, or switch Part D plans.

MEDICARE ADVANTAGE DISENROLLMENT PERIOD (MADP)

January 1 – February 14 each year. Medicare beneficiaries can leave their Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare and enroll in a stand-alone Part D plan.

Medical Mutual of Ohio December Updates

  • MMO’s 2020 Medicare Supplement rates have been approved. Quoting and enrollment are now available. Click here to view the rate sheet. Please note, effective Jan. 1, 2020, members’ rates will be based on age and gender.
  • The new 2020 Medicare amounts have been released and MMO has updated their Outline of Coverage. To view update Medicare Supplement documents, follow the steps below:
    • Go to MyBrokerLink and log in.
    • Click on the Producer’s Guide tab and select Medicare Supplement.
  • As a reminder, current members will renew at the new business rates. Members will not receive a renewal notification until their anniversary month. The renewal will include any rate updates in coordination with the member’s gender and age. Effective Jan. 1, 2020, Medicare Supplement plans C, F and High-Deductible F will no longer be available for sale to members newly eligible for Medicare.
    • Newly eligible members are defined as individuals who turn 65 years old on or after Jan. 1, 2020, or anyone who first becomes eligible for Medicare benefits due to age, disability, or end-stage renal disease, as defined by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), on or after Jan. 1, 2020.
    • Applicants eligible for Medicare prior to Jan. 1, 2020, will be allowed to purchase plans C, F, or High-Deductible F.
  • Dedicated Senior Medical Centers in Central Ohio has been added to the Medicare Advantage HMO network. These centers are designed specifically for seniors, providing easier access to care.
  • Effective Jan. 1, 2020, Licking Memorial Hospital and its physicians are part of Medical Mutual’s Medicare Advantage provider network.
  • Effective Jan. 1, 2020, the Physician’s Group of Southeastern Ohio (PGSEO) and Canyon Medical Center physicians will no longer be part of Medical Mutual’s Medicare Advantage provider network.

AEP Last Day Reminders From Your CSM Team

  • All AEP applications must be completed, signed by the member and agent, and received by the agent before end of day, Saturday, December 7, 2019.
  • All applications must be submitted directly to the carrier.  Review the Submitting Applications document (below) for the carrier fax numbers and contact information.
  • We’re here to help!  Reach out to us with policy questions or concerns all day, Friday December 6th.
  • The Cornerstone Senior Marketing offices will be closed on the last day of AEP this year, Saturday, December 7th.  However, if you encounter an extreme situation on the last day of AEP and need our assistance, we are available!

GTL 2020 Medicare Supplement Rates

GTL Announcement:  2020 Medicare Supplement Rates (OH)

The Ohio Department of Insurance has approved a rate increase for the Medicare Supplement policies:

OH – Plans A, F, G & N:  12%

Any new business received at GTL that has an application date of January 1, 2020 or later must reflect the new rates.  Applications dated December 31, 2019 and prior must be received at GTL by January 8, 2020.  Existing policyholders will be notified for policies due January 1, 2020 and later.

Similar to our procedures in the past,  newly issued policies will not receive a rate increase for one year (attained age re-rate still applies).

You can access and order the new Medicare Supplement rates and forms online through GTLINK, from GTL’s website (www.glic.com) by selecting Agents and then GTL Agent Login, under your own user name/password.  Once logged in, select Access GTLINK (Download/Order Forms).
